Allah has declared that He hates arrogants. Nobody would agree that he or she is arrogant, but the tests are simple. In the Qur'an we are taught the foundation of arrogance. Iblis refused to prostrate to Adam (pbuh) because he thought that he is better than Adam.. 'ana khairu minhu'. The reason he gave was that his creation was from smoke that goes up and Adam was from clay which remains down. What he failed to realise was : If his creation from smoke made him go up then even that is from Allah and not his own skills or acheivement. So he had no reasons to be arrogant and proud. He looked down upon Adam because Adam could not go up.
Other important lesson was the result of Arrogance.. Aba wa astakbar.. wahowa minal kafireen..he rebelled and was haughty. He ended up being a kafir. This is true to humans too. If we boast about our skills and acheivements ( those are actually the blessings of Allah and not our own possessions) we may look down upon others who dont have it, and then we may get jealous of them if they get something better than us and end up being a rebellious and kafir too.
Consider this : A student is excellent in Maths and gets A+ and there is another student who is average in Maths. If the brilliant in Maths looks down upon the weaker student and thinks that because he is not working hard so he lags behind and because he himself works very hard and so he is on top then this is arrogance. It could be that the average boy is not gifted with the brilliance of Maths by Allah but may be working harder though without results. It was a test for the brilliant boy and inspite of getting A+ grade in Maths he failed to 'balance the equation of skills' that if Allah causes him to excel in Maths the other boy mayb e excellent in English. But because " ana khairu minhu " in him he would not accept the fact.
A successful business man taunts his friend for not being successful in bussiness like him. A good looking healthy man looks down upon sick and the weak and men with tummies and wrong shapes and boasts of his health and looks. This is arrogant. When you look down upon others who do not own what Allah has given you then you are ungrateful because shukr of Allah is not to be arrogant of His Blessings.
Today we have so many types of arrogance waving up. Nationalism is one such crapped arrogance. My Nation is better than yours. 'We are world champions', 'we will crush our opponents in this sports '. This " ana khairu minhu" of Nations is reflected in the way they rejoice, celebrate their victories in sports, elections and as well as victories in wars with the people of other nations.
Remember that Allah has not given superiority over one an other but it is 'faddlana' a bounty, a blessing which should be used for the benefit of all and not be misused to put one upon the head of others..If the down fall of Iblis came through that way then those who are arrogant may follow him that way. So don't say you were not warned.
